Bembridge Community Library is currently run as a project of Community Action Isle of Wight (CAIW) which was formerly known as the Rural Communities Council. The library service is provided in partnership with volunteers from the local community and the Isle of Wight Council.
There is a voluntary management committee who take care of the day to day operation of the library and the fundraising activities to secure the library’s day to day operation and its ongoing financial viability. In addition there are about 30 volunteers who regularly work at the library. It is because of their hard work and dedication that we have a library in Bembridge.
Community Action Isle of Wight has legal responsibility for the service and supports volunteers to enable them to manage the library. Currently CAIW is working towards empowering the community to take over full responsibility of the service when they are ready to do so. More information about CAIW can be found here.
The Isle of Wight Council provide the premises, the books, regular stock rotation and specialist support and advice.
